Built on Scientific Rigor
Tektite’s founder, Tim Hazen, began his career grounded in scientific principles, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology and applying that rigor to environmental consulting. This foundation instilled a core belief: effective EHS management starts with precise data and a deep understanding of subsurface and surface dynamics.
Across two decades in the industry, ten of those years were spent at XTO Energy and ExxonMobil, navigating the operational complexities of the Bakken Shale. In this super major environment, Tim mastered the systems — from Behavior-Based Safety to Operational Risk Management — that enable enterprises to mitigate risk at scale. It was a masterclass in how to build programs that deliver not just compliance, but true operational continuity.
Upon transitioning to serve independent and growing operators, a critical gap became clear. Lean, talented producers were largely in the same state of fragmented compliance — often unknowingly, or due to an imbalance between genuine need and the high cost of these services. A significant number of clients were managing an ineffective patchwork program. This unfortunately required talented employees to spend a disproportionate amount of their time on compliance and administrative matters, rather than what they do best — operating. The result was too often a reliance on different, often high-priced specialized contractors who rarely communicated or coordinated with one another, leaving gaps in safety, contractor management, air permitting, OOOO a/b/c (LDAR), RRC and TCEQ compliance, and spill and emergency response preparation. The administrative burden was immense and the risk was unacceptable. Tektite Energy was built to fix this.
